Dhoni’s records as a batsman in international cricket
MS Dhoni became the second world cup winning captain in India when he led his team in World Cup final in 2011. Before that Kapil Dev and his team won the world cup in 1983. In 2003 Sourav Ganguly took India to the final but it wasn't a victory.
He is the first World T20 winning team's captain. In 2007 in South Africa India beat Pakistan on the World T20 final.
Dhoni is the highest run scorer in a second innings of a match. On 31 October 2005 he scored unbeaten 183 of 145 balls against Sri Lanka in Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. This is also the highest run scored by any Indian wicket keeper.
In this innings Dhoni hit 10 sixes. Which is the highest by any Indian batsman and third highest in the world after Xavier Marshall's 12, and St Jaysuriya and Shahid Afridi's 11 sixes in an innings
Dhoni scored unbeaten 139 against Africa XI during the Afro-Asia Cup in 2007 which is the highest run scored by a batsman at number 7
In 2009 his team beat New Zealand for the first time in a ODI series on their home ground. India won only one test series in New Zealand 42 years ago.
Dhoni has the highest batting average of 48.78 among Indian batsmen who played more than 50 matches.
During his captaincy India won 9 consecutive ODI matches which is the highest for any Indian captain.
Dhoni was named ICC cricketer of the year in 2009 he was the 2nd Indian and 7th in the world who won this title at that time. First title was given to Rahul Dravid in 2004.
He climbed to the number one spot in official ICC ODI bating ranking in July 2009. Currently Dhoni is at number 9 in the list. It was also a record as an Indian wicket keeper.
